The effect of the drug is determined by the content of essential oils, menthol and camphor.
The main substances treating inflammation are eugenol and caryophinella contained in clove oil;cineole, α-pinene and p-cymene present in eucalyptus oil.
Irritant effect is exerted by terpene derivatives. Evengin and eucalyptus oil substances reduce the action of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase.
As a result of these processes, the reaction of the arachidonic cascade is blocked, the formation of such substances as prostaglandin, leukotriene, thromboxane at the site of inflammation is inhibited.
