Prospan is a plant-based syrupwhich is effective in combating dry cough in children and adults. But due to the individual intolerance of the drug, it is not suitable for everyone, so today many analogs of the syrup have been made for children. Most do not require a prescription from a doctor to buy. Only when using funds that ensure the removal of bronchial secretions from the respiratory tract, in the complex therapy of acute respiratory infections, you need to adhere to the instructions. And under no circumstances should you exceed the dosage recommended in the annotation.

Characteristics of the drug

The form of Prospan is a beige syrup with fruity notes in the taste and a pronounced aroma of ripe cherries. The containers contain 100 ml of medication, they are packaged in cardboard packages along with instructions for use. The kit also includes a reusable container that allows you to measure the required amount of liquid substance (measuring cap).

The main component of children's medicine for the treatment of acute respiratory diseases is ivy foliage extract (7 mg). Additional components included in the composition are:

  • potassium salt of sorbic acid;
  • anhydrous citric acid;
  • crystallized solution of hexahedral alcohol (70%);
  • water that has passed the cleaning procedure;
  • cherry flavor;
  • xanthan gum.Analogues of Prospan syrup for children from cough

When disease-causing organisms attack the bronchi, trachea, or bronchioles and cause the development of the inflammatory process, in response to the action of stimuli, a cough begins - a protective reaction organism. And the active substances in Prospan are able to localize and eliminate the focus of inflammation, relieve the patient of symptoms that cause discomfort. The drug helps to liquefy and remove pathologically altered tracheobronchial secretions, relax the muscles of the respiratory tract, and destroy pathogenic microorganisms.

An analogue of Prospan, a syrup for children, like the original medicine, is prescribed for laryngitis, pharyngitis, tracheitis. Indications for ivy leaf medicine therapy are also pneumonia, acute / chronic stage of bronchitis and bronchial asthma.

Prospan or its generics are recommended to be taken only in case of accumulation of viscous phlegm in the bronchi, which practically does not cough up due to the narrowing of the lumen of small bronchi and bronchioles. If there are no such symptoms, then it is better to refuse syrup therapy. Otherwise, the patient's condition will worsen due to the deposition of mucus in the lower respiratory tract. And this will end in debilitating bouts of deep convulsive cough with suffocation.

Basic instructions

It is strictly forbidden to prescribe Prospan to patients with a history of gastritis or a local defect in the gastric mucosa (peptic ulcer). If taking the syrup for several days did not give any effect or the patient's condition began to deteriorate sharply (rises temperature, purulent blotches or ichor appeared in the sputum, shortness of breath), it is necessary to exclude the drug from the list and contact to the doctor.

Other contraindications include sucrose deficiency in the body, fructosemia, and glucose-galactose malabsorption. When the daily dose is exceeded, stool disturbances, nausea, dizziness and vomiting occur. Because sorbitol has a laxative effect, the patient may have diarrhea. There are no age restrictions for taking Prospan, there is only an adjustment to the dosage regimen.

Before use, you need to shake the container well, then take out the measuring cap included in the set and dial the required dose:

  • babies from 2 to 5 years old - 2.5 ml of the mixture early in the morning and in the evening, before going to bed;
  • children from 5 to 10 years old - 5 ml of the substance twice a day;
  • those who are already 10 years old - 5 ml of Prospan three times a day.

To consolidate the therapeutic effect, doctors advise drinking the mixture for a couple of days after the symptoms disappear. As for pregnant and breastfeeding women, only a doctor should adjust the dosage regimen for them. As a rule, a single dose for patients during gestation / lactation is 5 ml.

Analogs

An analogue of Prospan syrup can be found in any pharmacy. But before choosing a generic for children or adults, it is imperative to check with the treating doctor or pharmacist dispensing the medicine, whether it can completely replace the original a drug. This need is explained by the fact that the prescribed dosage forms and doses may differ even for generics.Analogues of Prospan syrup for children from cough

Hederal Ivy

In terms of its action and composition, the herbal preparation is as close as possible to Prospan. Due to the content of glycosidic nitrogen-free organic compounds, Hederal Ivy is a myotropic antispasmodic.

The drug contains bronchodilator, expectorant and antimicrobial action. It is effective in acute inflammatory pathologies of the respiratory system, which cause coughing, as well as in diseases of the branches of the windpipe of a chronic nature.

The dosage of Hederal Ivy is the same as the original drug. Compatibility with other drugs is more than 75%, so it can be safely used in combination therapy with antibiotics.

But it is better to refrain from the simultaneous reception with codeine or dextromethorphan. Especially with individual intolerance to any components of the syrup. In case of the appearance of urticaria, rosacea, gastrointestinal disorders, treatment with Hederal Ivy should be discontinued.

Eucabal

The active ingredients in this mixture are plantain and thyme extract. A thick translucent brown liquid is prescribed by doctors for organ irritation syndrome breathing provoked by chemical or physical factors, inflammation of the larynx, coughing of various etiology. It is also used in the complex treatment of tuberculosis and bronchopneumonia.

Eucabal, an analogue of Prospan syrup for children, liquefies and removes phlegm, has an antimicrobial and enveloping effect. Due to this, the white plaque on the tip of the tongue disappears, which is often the first sign of the onset of an inflammatory process in the bronchi. This symptom appears even before the manifestation of a pronounced clinical picture of bronchitis. The biological activity possessed by the plantain extract enhances the active function of the ciliated ciliated epithelium of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.

With renal failure, diabetes mellitus and chronic alcoholism, Eucabal should not be taken. Other contraindications are children under six months of age, craniocerebral trauma, accompanied by epileptic seizures.

If the form of respiratory inflammatory pathology is not severe, the duration of treatment with Eucabal is 14 days. In the absence of positive dynamics after two weeks, you need to consult with your doctor so that he corrects the treatment regimen or prescribes another medication.

Gedelix

This generic Prospan in its harmless herbal composition contains 0.8 g of ivy leaf extract, star anise oil, propylene glycol, hydroxyethyl cellulose and purified water. The consistency of the liquid is thick, colored yellow-brown. Unlike the original product, which can be drunk undiluted, it is advisable to drink Gedelix with water.Analogues of Prospan syrup for children from cough

In the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the bronchi, aimed at eliminating symptoms, and not at eliminating the causes, patients over 10 years old take 5 ml of the medicine three times a day. Do not exceed this dose, because a typical immunopathological process, expressed hypersensitivity of the immune system to the drug, indigestion with all the ensuing consequences - vomiting, upset stomach, nausea.

The analogue of Prospan syrup for children, Gedelix, should not be taken during the period of bearing a child. If the original allows you to simply adjust the dose for pregnant women, then in the case of Gedelix, the contraindication is adamant.

Herbion

It includes three plant components - an extract of thyme, primrose and levorotatory isomer of menthol, which is a metabolite of lamb plants. The syrup dilutes the viscous secretion due to its expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect. A child can be given Herbion as soon as he turns 4 years old. But the absence of allergy to active ingredients allows pediatricians to prescribe syrup to patients from 2 years old. Each plant component of Herbion has its own function.

Upon ingestion:

  • primrose extract - stimulates the gastric mucosa, which uses the vagus nerve as a conductor to stimulate the enhancement of the bronchial secretion reflex, and also improves expectoration;
  • thyme extract - antispasmodic for the smooth muscles of the respiratory tract, and thymol, which is the main component of the essential oil, has an antiseptic effect;
  • levomenthol - effective for sinusitis and bronchitis, acts as an antiseptic and analgesic.

Contraindications to taking Gerbion are the same as those of Prospan. Levomenthol easily dissolves in fats, being absorbed through the mucous membrane of the hollow muscular organ of the digestive tract into the blood, from where it enters the liver. Here, it first goes through an oxidation stage, after which it combines with glucuronic acid. It is excreted from the body for 24 hours with urine.

Lazolvan

If you have a choice between Prospan and Lazolvan, you must take into account the fact that their composition is completely different. In the analogue, almost all active components are chemical, not plant-based - ambroxol hydrochloride, benzoic acid, flavorings, acesulfame potassium. But this difference does not negate the high efficiency of Lazolvan. The syrup has a slightly viscous consistency, transparent and colorless.

The secretion in the respiratory tract is increased by ambroxol, which enhances the production of pulmonary surfactant and stimulates ciliary activity. In most patients, on the third day of taking Lazolvan, there is a relief of cough, an improvement in the sputum discharge process due to an increase in mucociliary clearance. If obstructive disease has become chronic, two months of syrup therapy reduces the number of exacerbations. An analogue of Prospan syrup for children Lazolvan can be given to children from 6 years of age and older (2.5 - 5 ml three times a day).

There are not so many side effects of the drug:

  • decreased sensitivity in the mouth or larynx;
  • anaphylactic reactions;
  • violation of taste sensations;
  • abdominal pain, diarrhea;
  • rash, urticaria.

In case of an overdose with Lazolvan, it is necessary to artificially induce vomiting or wash the stomach every 1.5-2 hours after administration.

Ascoril

The light brown syrup contains three active components - bromhexine hydrochloride, guaifenesin and salbutamol. And also a number of auxiliary substances: sucrose, sodium benzonate, glycerin, menthol, flavorings. Thanks to pineapple or black currant fragrances, the medicine will appeal to even the smallest patients.

The thinning phlegm, expectorant and bronchodilator effect made Ascoril a combined drug. The mixture reduces the viscosity of the tracheobronchial secretion, has an antitussive effect, eliminating spasm, and allows the cough to go from dry to wet. One of the distinctive features of Ascoril is that the active substances are absorbed in the stomach half an hour after oral administration. And then they are already metabolized in the liver, and excreted by the kidneys in the form of water-soluble metabolites.

Doctors prescribe Ascoril for asthmatic bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The syrup is also effective in acute forms of bronchitis (trachebronchitis). The dosage regimen is identical to Prospan.

The medicine is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to active substances, tachycardia, heart defects. It is strictly forbidden to take Ascoril for gastric bleeding, glaucoma, hepatic or renal failure. An additional contraindication is decompensated diabetes mellitus.

Gederin

1 ml of Gederin contains an extract of ivy leaves, ethanol and hederacoside C, which makes it possible to remove excess water and reduce the amount of accumulated fat.

Natural ingredients have allowed Gederin to become a mucolytic and tonic. It is prescribed for people with bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, trachebronchitis.

Before drinking the syrup, shake the bottle so that the sediment formed at the bottom dissolves. For children from one to 6 years old, the daily dose is 2.5 ml three times a day, from 6 years and older - 5 ml in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening. Gederin interacts well with many other medicines, so it can be included in complex treatment.

Treatment with this mixture, on average, lasts a week. But to consolidate the effect, it is recommended to drink for another 2-3 days, until the patient's condition is completely stabilized. Exceeding the dosage can lead to swelling of the mucous membranes, overexcitation, severe itching.

Price of funds

Prospan may not be available to everyone for many reasons. Someone cannot afford this remedy due to individual intolerance to the active ingredients, someone because of the cost.
