Peculiarities

Sophora is distinguished from other natural medicines by the breadth of its application and the ability to regulate many important processes, slowing down the aging of cells, tissues and organs. By activating the functions of the body, Sophora does not lead to excessive excitement, does not cause addiction and can be used in the presence of certain autoimmune processes without the danger of exacerbations.

Botanical description

Sophora Japanese has several more names, it is called the Japanese pagoda or acacia and even the hoe tree. The botanical name of the culture is Styphnolobium japonicum or Japanese Styphnolobium. This medicinal plant is a tall, powerful tree, but at the same time belongs to the legume family due to the structure of the fruit.Sophora in folk medicine. Tincture and treatment of knee joints, hemorrhoids, sinusitis, diabetes mellitus

Sophora in natural conditions (on the Japanese islands) quickly grows up to 25 meters. In other regions, the tree usually does not exceed 10 m. The culture enters fruiting only 30 years after planting. During this time, the sophora independently forms a spreading crown that does not require shaping.

The bark on the adult trunk is gray, cracked, the young branches are green. The leaf plates are long (up to 25 cm), pinnately complex, similar to acacia leaves, but larger and shiny. The top of the leaves is smooth, bright green, the underside is gray. The culture resembles acacia in many ways, but unlike it, the shoots of the sophora do not have thorns.

In favorable conditions, the tree blooms once every 2 seasons. At this time, the entire crown is covered with long cluster inflorescences, also very similar to acacia.

What parts are used for medicinal purposes

Sophora, the tincture and treatment of which is beneficial for both home and factory preparation, concentrates the active ingredients in flowers and unripe beans.

Sophora buds are pale yellow, very fragrant, moth type, collected in loose drooping panicles. After flowering, long legume pods appear, inside which are seeds that look like black, small beans.

The pods have constrictions around the fruit, so they resemble strands of beads that decorate a tree in bundles. The color of young fruits is pale green, eventually changing to amber. The beans can hibernate directly on the tree, acquiring a brownish red hue.Sophora in folk medicine. Tincture and treatment of knee joints, hemorrhoids, sinusitis, diabetes mellitus

Fresh Sophora fruits are inedible. The substances contained in them can cause poisoning. Only dried and properly prepared pods are used for treatment, which are harmless to the body.

Collection

In the south of Ukraine, Russia, in the Crimea, Sophora blooms in the second half of summer: late July or August. It is advisable to collect flowers at the bud stage, before the full opening of the petals. The buds are harvested with a whole brush, carefully cutting off or breaking off from the stem.Sophora in folk medicine. Tincture and treatment of knee joints, hemorrhoids, sinusitis, diabetes mellitus

The fruits are harvested in bunches, without waiting for full ripening: ripe beans lose their medicinal properties. Sophora pods are usually harvested in early October. In regions where ripening occurs later, it is recommended to harvest Sophora beans after the first frost.

How to prepare

The buds are dried in warm air, always protecting from direct sunlight. You can prepare flowers in the oven by setting the temperature to no higher than 50 ° C.

Sophora beans are dried in the same way. Before harvesting, it is permissible to divide large pods into parts. The difference is the ability to leave the beans in a state close to dried.

At the same time, the leaves acquire transparency and rubbery toughness. Such fruits are used for medicinal infusions in the first place. For long-term storage, it is advisable to dry the sophora pods to a hard, brittle state.

Storage

Dried flowers, as well as sophora beans, can be stored in paper bags or cardboard boxes, provided that the air humidity is low. If there are doubts about the constancy of moisture indicators, it is better to pack the raw materials in glass containers and seal them with sealed lids. With this method of storage, a place well protected from light is chosen for the cans.Sophora in folk medicine. Tincture and treatment of knee joints, hemorrhoids, sinusitis, diabetes mellitus

The medicinal material of Sophora retains its healing effect for more than 2 years. The preparation of alcoholic or vodka tinctures increases the shelf life up to 5 years. Tinctures and vinegar extracts should also be protected from sunlight, otherwise medicinal substances are broken down, and the liquid changes color.

Chemical composition

The rich set of active substances of Sophora, which determines its healing properties, is actively used by medicine.

Official pharmaceuticals from Sophora:

  • Tincture of Japanese Sophora;
  • Pachikarpin;
  • Rutin;

Sophora, tincture and treatment of which is quite possible at home, is available in pharmacies as dried raw materials. The preparation of alcoholic extracts is dictated by the fact that the most valuable plant substance is rutin. This compound is practically insoluble in water, and alcohol is not only a good solvent, but also an ideal preservative that prevents the oxidation of nutrients.

Rutin, also called vitamin P, plays an important role in strengthening vascular walls, making them strong and elastic at the same time, reducing fragility. Thus, Sophora improves the functioning of almost all body systems.

The main components of the fruits and flowers of Japanese Sophora:

Rutin Improves heart function, restores blood vessels, relieves tissue edema, and prevents atherosclerosis. Necessary in the treatment of hypovitaminosis, anemia
Vitamin C Antioxidant and blood thinner. Promotes the assimilation of rutin, enhances immunity
Quercetin Bioflavonoid that improves the condition of the vascular walls, lowers blood pressure
Organic acids They act as mild antispasmodics, relieve inflammation, regenerate tissues and mucous membranes
Sophocarpine;

Sophoramine;

Pachikarpin and other alkaloids

Sophora is rich in valuable fatty oils, and also contains nutrients in significant concentrations: iron, zinc, iodine, potassium, boron, and other macro- and microelements. Moreover, the properties of rutin have been studied quite well, and the effect of the entire healing cocktail of Sophora has so far been used only by traditional medicine.
