Accurate information regardinghow much a person should weigh, no. There are many reasons that do not depend on the will of man, since nature is capable of adjusting values, influencing genetic factors, ecology and climate. Below are tables with statistical data on the average weight and height of completely healthy people aged 2 to 20 years.
It should be borne in mind that the mass will mainly be set by human growth. Average weight will be the norm for those with average height. If it differs from the average, the mass indicator must be selected and evaluated on an individual basis using a BMI calculator.
Body types
How much a person should weigh (the table with calculations is presented for informational purposes) can be checked by several methods: by BMI, height and years, as well as simply by height.
The optimal weight of a person is considered to be the weight at which he feels healthy and beautiful. If you follow the normal values, there is no guarantee that a person will be completely healthy. However, the risk of pathologies and disorders that are provoked by excess weight decreases. People who stick to the optimal weight, given age with growth, will feel normal after intense exercise.
However, the ideal mass is considered an abstract concept denoting the average that is obtained by calculation, taking into account the characteristics of a person at the physiological level:
- age;
- gender;
- height;
- body type.
At the same time, individual parameters are not taken into account, which make it possible to more accurately determine the normal body weight:
- the degree of physical activity;
- the ratio of fat and muscle masses.
In this regard, the indicator that is obtained by the formulas will not be as accurate as possible. It is considered only a rough guideline to be followed when controlling weight.
A clearer border of a suitable mass is the interval between the minimum and highest values, in which the human weight should fall.
Asthenics
Asthenic body type is characterized by a thin subcutaneous fat layer, elongated arms with legs and narrow bones. For women, the girth of the wrist is no more than 16 cm, for men - less than 18 cm.
Asthenics have a lean body constitution, so they are not prone to obesity, since they have an accelerated metabolism. Moreover, they have a narrow chest and hips. Often people with an asthenic body type have a shorter than average height and an elongated neck.
They may have a lack of stamina and strength, while they may have complexes about excessive thinness, since it is more difficult to get rid of such a problem than to get rid of excess weight. Such people need to eat more and exercise strength in order to increase muscle mass.

Normostenics
People with a normosthenic body type are generally close to the average indicators of the norm. For women, the girth of the wrist ranges from 15 to 17 cm, in men - from 18 to 20 cm.
Normostenics have a proportional ratio and generally average height.

Hypersthenics
People with a hypersthenic body type are generally short and well-muscled. For women, the girth of the wrist is more than 17 cm, for men - more than 20 cm.
Hypersthenic women have very wide and heavy bones, so they have broad shoulders, long legs and a massive chest. They are suitable for professions where endurance with physical strength is required.
How much a person should weigh (the table with indicators provides values for both women and men) with a hypersthenic physique can be found out from the following values:

Body weight according to M.N. Egorova and L.M. Levitsky
How much a person should weigh (a table with calculations according to Egorov and Levitsky will tell you the appropriate weight) needs to be determined taking into account age, as it is considered an important part of determining normal masses. It is also recommended to take into account the difference between a woman and a man. Russian nutritionists mainly use the L.M. Levitsky and M.N. Egorova, which displays the ratio of the mass and height of women and men of different ages.
The authors of this technique imply a simple determination of their own optimal mass. To do this, it is enough to weigh yourself and measure your own growth by comparing the resulting value with the table.
However, the table does not indicate the optimal weight, but the maximum possible weight for a certain age, height and gender:
Of the year | 20-29 years old | 30-39 years old | 40-49 years old | 50-59 years old | 60-69 years old | |||||

174 | 74 | 77 | 79 | 80 | 83 | 84 | 79 | 83 | 78 | 79 |
Taking into account the tabular data, for men from 20 to 29 years old with a height of 170 cm, the mass should be 72 kg, for women with similar values - 69 kg. Men not exceeding 174 cm, from 40 to 49 years old, should weigh approximately 84 kg, women - 83 kg.
Such values should not be surprising, since modern girls weigh about 6 kg more than a few years ago. At the same time, the average modern person weighs about 5 kg more. Often this is influenced by poor metabolism with the environment. At the same time, the wrong diet is considered the main cause of hunger and obesity.
By formulas
In contrast to past decades, the standard weights have changed significantly. The average weight of women and men combined increased by 5 kg over this time period. Various formulas are presented below to determine the appropriate weight, taking into account human height with age.
However, there is no specific formula for a suitable weight for height and age. Only tables with ready-made indicators are given, where data on gender, years and height are indicated. In this case, it is necessary to determine initially your own height, then age with gender, finding a suitable indicator that is at the intersection of the required column and row. The value is considered the optimal weight. Also, the table may indicate the appropriate weight in relation to human height and age.
Thanks to such calculations, it is permissible to calculate the mass for many people, except for:
- pregnant women;
- people who are prone to swelling and other disorders that provoke an increase in the norm of the mass;
- professional athletes.
Brunhard
To obtain the figure for the optimal mass, you need to multiply the value of growth by the circumference of the chest, dividing the indicator by 240. The resulting value makes it possible to understand how many kilograms a person must lose weight or gain in order to reach the norm.
Brunhard's formula for ideal body weight: height * ogk: 240.
However, this calculation does not take into account most of the indicators in the form of characteristics of the body, gender, age and percentage of the fat layer. In this regard, such a calculation is able to show the approximate values by which it is permissible to navigate.
Neglera
Negler's formula for setting a suitable weight is based on gender and height. However, it does not take into account age with the current mass.
Formula for girls: 45.3 + 2.27 * (height: 2.54-60).
Formula for men: 48 + 2.7 * (height: 2.54-60).
For example, for a girl reaching 165 cm, Negler's formula provides the following ideal mass: 45.3 + 2.27 * (165: 2.54-60) = 56 kg.
For a man with a height of 180 cm, the appropriate mass will be as follows: 48 + 2.7 * (180: 2.54-60) = 79 kg.
Tatonya
How much a person should weigh is permissible to calculate using the Tatonya formula, which is based on the growth rate. If you do not want to calculate the value, you can enter the numbers into the table of the online calculator, which will independently calculate the optimal weight.
Formula Tatonya optimal weight: height - (100 + (height-100): 20).
For example, with 165 cm for a girl, the appropriate weight would be: 165- (100+ (165-100): 20) = 61 kg.
For a man reaching 180 cm, the index of suitable mass will be as follows: 180- (100+ (180-100): 20) = 76 kg.
Noorden
At the beginning of the XX century. Nutritionist Noorden has developed a suitable mass formula, which is based on the values of the Broca index.
Noorden's formula: height * 420: 1000.
For example, a man with a height of 180 cm, based on the Noorden index, should have the following optimal weight: 180 * 420: 1000 = 75 kg.
A woman with a height of 165 cm should have the following body weight: 165 * 420: 1000 = 69 kg.
Lorenz
Lorenz's formula is a widespread method for determining the optimal body weight of a person of a certain height. This method is quite simple to use, since it is permissible to carry out calculations without using a calculator.
Lorentz's formula: X-100- (X-150): 2.
X is a numerical height value displayed in centimeters.
For example, at 170 cm, you must initially subtract 100 from this number, it turns out 70. After that, you need to subtract 150 from 170. The number obtained by subtracting should be divided by 2. As a result, you should get 10. Further, it is required to subtract 10 from 70. As a result, a suitable body weight with 170 cm should reach 60 kg.
Broca
French anthropologist Brock has created a formula that makes it possible to calculate the appropriate mass for the growth rate. This method is considered more popular because it is very simple. Basically, it is designed to calculate the optimal weight for people whose height varies from 150 to 185 cm.
Brock's formula:
- for women: height (cm) -100;
- for men: height (cm) -110.
For example, for a man with a height of 185 cm, it is necessary to subtract 110 from this value. The result is 75 kg. For a woman with a height of 165 cm, the optimal weight should be 65 kg, if you subtract 100 from 165.
To calculate using such formulas, it is recommended to take into account the following:
- For people from 20 to 30 years old, the resulting figure should be reduced by 11%, for people over 50 years old - increased by 6%.
- The trunk constitution can be hypersthenic, normosthenic, and asthenic. For the latter, the obtained value should be reduced by 10%, for the hypersthenic type - increased by 10%.
To establish the type of physique, it is recommended to know the size of the wrist circumference of the working hand:
Body type | Women | Men |
Asthenic | no more than 16 cm | no more than 17 cm |
Normosthenic | from 16 to 18 cm | from 17 to 20 cm |
Hypersthenic | more than 18 cm | more than 20 cm |
Devine
In 1974, Dr. Devine created a formula that was originally used for medical purposes to calculate the dosage of medications. However, later the formula acquired a wider scope of use.
Devine's Formula for Finding Optimal Mass:
- for girls: 45.5 + 2.3 * (0.393701 * H-60);
- for men: 50 + 2.3 * (0.393701 * H-60).
H stands for height, displayed in centimeters.
For example, with 165 cm, a girl should weigh: 45.5 + 2.3 * (0.393701 * 165-60) = 56 kg.
For a man reaching 180 cm, the appropriate mass should be as follows: 50 + 2.3 * (0.393701 * 180-60) = 75 kg.
Kreffa
Kreff's formula is based on Brock's method. However, it takes into account a person's physique and his age. To calculate a suitable mass, you will need to initially measure the circumference of the wrist.
Kreff's formula: (height-100 + (age: 10)) * 0.9 * K.
The K value will have the following parameters, taking into account the size of the girth of the wrist:
- 0.9 with a girth of less than 15 cm;
- 1 with a girth of 15 to 17 cm;
- 1.1 with a girth of more than 17 cm.
For example, if a 35-year-old woman reaches 165 cm and has a wrist circumference of 16 cm, her ideal weight would be (165-100 + (35:10)) * 0.9 * 1 = 55 kg.
A 30-year-old man, reaching 180 cm, and with a wrist circumference of 18 cm according to the Kreff index, should weigh: (180-100 + (30:10)) * 0.9 * 1.1 = 76 kg.
Online calculators
How much should a person weigh (a table with calculations of any online calculator will help determine values) can be calculated using the body mass index, which determines the degree of excess weight. Thanks to this, it is permissible to establish the risk of the appearance of pathologies that are associated with obesity.
The formula for determining body mass index: weight (in kg): (height indicator (m))2.
To facilitate the calculation, it is permissible to use any online calculator. To do this, you will need to enter information about height, weight and gender.
Upon completion of the calculations, it is permissible to familiarize yourself with the calculation results, which will indicate:
- body mass index;
- personal optimal weight;
- limit weight, according to medical recommendations.
BMI means the following:
- from 20 to 25 is the norm in which there are no factors that threaten health;
- from 25 to 30 means the presence of excess weight, in which you need to reduce weight to improve health (for men who go in for sports, an index up to 27 is considered the norm);
- 30 to 35 is obese with a high health threat score;
- from 35 and above is obesity of the 3rd degree, in which it is necessary to seek the help of a specialist in order to reduce weight.
The doctor will help you make the right menu and prescribe certain types of exercise to get rid of excess weight. In very advanced conditions, it may be necessary to take medications that suppress hunger.
If everything is normal with the weight index, it is enough to continue to eat right, move more and do moderate physical activity.
When evaluating and adjusting body weight, it should be borne in mind that only a person is able to determine how much he should weigh, taking into account personal experience and motivation. The data from the tables are only statistical values for average height and weight. In this regard, the main indicators of the norm of weight should be personal comfort with good health and maximum life expectancy in a healthy state.
