Appendicitis

Appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the curve of the appendix of the cecum. There is an outgrowth between the thin and large intestines. A sharp appendix induces peritonitis - a condition when the appendix bursts due to the amount of pus that enters the abdominal cavity. Most often, this disease is observed in persons from 10 to 30 years.

The first symptom of this disease is called acute abdominal pain. Sometimes the patient can not even understand which side appendicitis. The pain spreads quickly and simultaneously "gives away" both in the navel and in the upper abdomen. Often when exacerbation there is nausea, vomiting, febrile condition, the temperature rises. If these symptoms occur, lie on your left side and perform palpation in the abdomen. If the pain is increased when pressing, it is urgent to call an ambulance.

At first, appendicitis is manifested only by taxation in the language and attacks of pain in the abdomen during coughing, laughing or sneezing. Inflammation of the process also affects the biochemical composition of the blood: the level of leukocytes and erythrocytes rises.

Today, doctors say that the number of atypical cases of the disease has increased. This is due to the localization of inflammation, sometimes the appendix may even be migratory.

The disease is most active in children, because they have a hyperergic reaction of the whole organism. With age, the symptoms of the disease become dull, which causes problems in diagnosis. In older people, there may be an exacerbation after removal of the inflammatory process - appendicular infiltration. Disease is also dangerous for pregnant women, since the process of the intestine is located behind the uterus, which contributes to the "stunning" of peritoneal symptoms.

If the patient's condition allows preoperative diagnosis, doctors using laparoscopy and ultrasound determine the form of appendicitis: phlegmonous, catarrhal and gangrenous.
