Ketilept is an antipsychotic drug that belongs to the group of neuroleptics. Produced in the form of tablets in a white film fascia. The drug is prescribed for the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder and psychosis.

The drug is available in the form of tablets with an amount of active substance 25, 100 and 150 mg. One tablet contains the active ingredient quetiapine fumarate( 28, 115, 172 mg) and additional components:

• lactose monohydrate;
• silica.

The fascia of tablets( 25 mg) consists of hypromellose( 0.12 mg), titanium dioxide( 0.5 mg), lactose monohydrate( 0.42 mg) and macrogol( 0.16).

Pharmacological action

The active component of the drug causes an antipsychotic effect that does notincreasing the accumulation of prolactin in the blood plasma. The drug is quite effective in the treatment of schizophrenia.

The therapeutic effect of the drug lasts for twelve hours after its administration. The active substance of the drug( quetiapine) has an antagonistic effect on the receptors of the neurotransmitters of the central nervous system.

Cetepype affects histamine receptors, resulting in drowsiness. Because of the effect on alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, arterial orthostatic hypotension arises.

Mechanism of action

The exact algorithm for the functioning of this medication is unknown. In the usual tests, the active substance of the drug has antipsychotic activity.

Quetiapine provokes a selective reduction in the active mesolimbic dopaminergic nerve cells. With prolonged use of this drug, there is no increase in the saturation of prolactin in the blood plasma. The highest efficacy of cetepype is noted with a multiplicity of use twice a day.

  The medication is for internal use, independent of food intake. Dosages and regimens for the administration of cetylept is determined based on the type of disease:

  1. Nervousness of acute and protracted nature .The total initial dose is 50 mg. The multiplicity of the use is twice a day. On the second day of therapy, the amount of the drug should be increased to 100 mg, on the third day - 200 mg, the fourth to 300 mg. From the fourth day of treatment, the daily dose is prescribed in the amount of 300-450 mg. The maximum daily dose should not be more than 750 mg.
  2. Depressive phase of bipolar disorder .In this case, the medicine is prescribed for a single use( at night).The therapeutic course starts from a dose of 50 mg every day, with a daily increase of 100 mg. The addition of the dose should be stopped when its amount reaches 300 mg. The duration of the therapeutic course for this pathology is determined by the doctor. The maximum allowable daily amount of the drug is 600 mg.
  3. Manic manifestations of bipolar disorder .The initial dose from which to start the course of therapy is 50 milligrams. Before the fourth day of treatment, the daily amount of the drug should be gradually increased to 400 mg. The optimal amount of medicine for manic attacks is 400-800 mg per day. The limiting dose of the drug is 850 mg.

  Overdose cases of

  In case of an overdose of Cetepype, the following side effects occur: decrease in blood pressure, increased palpitations, drowsiness and extreme apathy.

  In rare cases, there is a coma or fatal outcome( with severe overdose).Of undesirable effects, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, palpitations and dyspepsia are most common.

  When combining the drug with other antipsychotic medications, fainting, leukopenia and peripheral swelling may occur.

  There are no special antidotes to the drug. Treatment of an overdose consists in carrying out pathognomonic therapy and other procedures aimed at normalization of cardiovascular activity and respiratory functions.

  In kidney and liver diseases, the medication is prescribed in an amount of 25 mg per day, with a maximum increase to 50 mg. Cetepet is banned during pregnancy and lactation period.
