Magnetic resonance imaging( MRI) - a relatively new type of examination of tissues and organs of the body, allowing for a short time to obtain ready-made computer images made in different planes and comparable in quality with histological sections.
It can be said that an MRI is a human body scan using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging to produce a more accurate diagnosis.
Research is being undertaken to determine the scope and tactics of surgical intervention.
MRI of the nose does not require long special training: it's enough to take off all the metal objects and ornaments before examining. During the MRI session, the patient is placed in the recumbent position in the ring part of the tomograph.
Contraindication to the procedure of MRI can be considered:

- the presence of a pacemaker;
- metal implants;
- prosthesis.
Thanks to the MRI, the doctor can see real changes in the tissue structure and give an adequate assessment of the pathophysiological and physicochemical processes taking place in the organs. All this information helps to make the correct diagnosis within half an hour from the beginning of the examination.
It should be borne in mind that any foreign metal objects implanted in the patient's body( clips, staples, splinters) are also a complete contraindication to the study.
Previously, MRI was performed exclusively for the purpose of neurological practice, however, it is now being used to study:
- of the abdominal organs;
- structures of the musculoskeletal system;
- of blood vessels;
- of the heart;
- of mammary glands, pelvic organs;
- of ENT organs, for example, such as the paranasal sinuses.
MRI of the paranasal sinuses( ethmoid, frontal, maxillary) is performed with suspicions of:
- inflammatory neoplasms in the mucous membranes of the sinuses of the nose;
- presence of liquid in them;
- suspected of developing cysts.
For the examination of the paranasal sinuses of the nose, MRI is assigned only as a refinement of the data obtained during CT sessions or if it is not possible to perform it. In addition, you should know that the MRI of the sinuses of the nose is not assigned if necessary to obtain an assessment of the state of the bony structures( walls) of the nose.
