neuroleptanalgesia Neurolepsy is a condition of the body that occurs during neuroleptanalgesia and is characterized by a decrease in not only motor, but also mental activity, a manifestation of active indifference to one's own environment and all that is happening.

Also under this term, doctors understand the effect that neuroleptics, which suppress not only the patient's mental and emotional state, but also his motor activity, are taken. In this case, we are talking about such a side effect as a malignant neuroleptic syndrome.

About the causes and symptoms of

The causes that trigger the development of neuroleptic syndrome, doctors have not yet been elucidated. But most of it is the influence of the neuroleptics themselves on all the processes and the neuroleptic connection taking place in the brain.

The presented hypothesis is argued by the doctors that the expressed symptoms of neurolepsy are directly related to the general condition of the patient, the dose and the frequency of taking this or that drug. If a patient abuses narcotic substances or alcohol - the syndrome manifests itself in a more severe form.

Symptoms of neuroleptic effect of physicians are divided into early and late. So the first manifest themselves in the next 2-3 days after taking this or that drug or increasing the dosage in order to enhance the therapeutic effect. This form of neurolepsy proceeds more easily, stopping immediately after the withdrawal of the neuroleptic. antipsychotic

The late form of the disorder can manifest itself as a negative symptom after the neuroleptic drugs have been withdrawn or after a certain time, considerable in duration, after the start of the course of therapy. In this case, negative symptomatology, the manifestation of neuroleptic syndrome can persist for a long time, sometimes for life.

Neuroleptics in this case can have different symptoms - they are difficult to group and identify, as most drugs provoke certain symptoms, which in most cases they should also stop.

However, doctors distinguish such typical symptoms:

  • tremor;
  • disorder of motor functions, inhibited movements and delayed reaction to the stimulus;
  • gait resembles the gait of a robot, it can be distinguished by shakiness and uncertainty in movements;
  • muscle activity decreases;
  • decreases both contact and cognitive ability.

In a patient with this syndrome, emotions are languidly showing up, the person becomes asocial, characteristically manifests itself and the development of hyperkinesis, when the movements become obtrusive, which is provoked by a decrease in the tone of muscle activity.

In case of development of malignant, severe form of neurolepsy against the background of taking neuroleptics, the described manifestations will be more pronounced, up to the complete immobilization of the patient and the development of adynamia.

What physicians recommend

First of all, the doctor conducts a full and comprehensive neurological examination - this is done to exclude the development of neuroinfections and brain tumors, the so-called withdrawal syndrome, and other similar symptomatic conditions.

drug administration If the diagnosis of neuroleptic syndrome is confirmed, then the patient is hospitalized, and the course of treatment consists in the abolition of the medication that triggered the development of neurolepsy, recommended the rejection of bad habits.

When the withdrawal of a drug is not possible - reduce its dose, the frequency of admission or replace it with a full-fledged analog without side effects.

Also prescribed is a course of taking vitamin complexes, anticonvulsants, correction with the help of necessary medications, respiratory gymnastics or physiotherapy procedures, correction of existing respiratory system disorders is performed.

If the illness is triggered by alcohol or drugs, the course of treatment is prescribed to eliminate addiction, and after the measures are taken, to eliminate the negative consequences and symptoms.
