The fluid in the knee joint is synovia, it is formed in the synovial membrane, hence the medical name of the disease is synovitis. It takes a lot of effort to get rid of this fluid.

Reasons for the appearance of fluid in the knee joint

The knee joint is often injured, which causes it to form a liquid.

The injuries include:

  • meniscus damage;
  • hemoarthrosis( hemorrhage);
  • damage to ligaments;
  • fractures of the articular bones( patella, condyles of the hip).

The cause of the injuries are:

  • landing on their feet when jumping from a high altitude;
  • knee blow.

All lesions in the knee joint are accompanied by:

  • edema;
  • hemorrhage;
  • with swelling;
  • with severe pain.

Symptoms of the appearance of fluid in the knee joint

Symptoms begin to appear gradually: a few hours or days after getting injured.

The first main symptom is a noticeable increase in the knee in volume.

The collected liquid begins to deform the knee joint, which greatly complicates the movement of the leg and is accompanied by painful sensations. This is the second main symptom. The pain, usually, is not sharp, dull.

Synovitis of the knee joint

Synovitis is a disease characterized by inflammation of the synovial membrane in the joint.

The result of inflammation is effusion( fluid).

The main cause of synovitis is trauma, but its effect can be exerted by:

  • allergy;
  • arthritis;
  • hemophilia;
  • in the presence of infection formed purulent synovitis.

Post-traumatic synovitis of the knee joint is characterized by:

  • increased pain syndrome;
  • temperature increase;
  • increase in fluid volume in the joint.

Chronic synovitis of the knee joint is characterized by less severe pain. The joint is constantly filled with fluid, with the long course of the disease, the appearance of deforming arthrosis.

Reactive synovitis of the knee joint is an allergic disease. The reactive synovitis is caused by mechanical or toxic effects and is often a manifestation of some kind of allergic reaction.

Treatment of synovitis of the knee

How to remove fluid in the knee is the first thing that surgeons-doctors treat as synovitis.

Treatment is performed in the operating room. Anesthesia during this procedure is not required.

The doctor carefully introduces a thin special needle into the cavity of the inflamed joint where fluid accumulates and sucks it with a syringe. After the procedure, antibiotics are introduced into the released cavity, regardless of whether there is a suspicion of infection. Then the patient is placed in a room where he is provided with complete peace. The knee is pulled together by a pressure bandage or knee.

Now all treatment consists in the use of anti-inflammatory drugs( Voltaren, Diclofenac).

During treatment, doctors struggle not only with inflammation in the knee, but also with the main cause of its appearance. The establishment of an accurate diagnosis is entrusted only to a narrow specialist: an orthopedist or a rheumatologist, because if the underlying cause of inflammation is not found and not eliminated, the fluid will soon reappear in the knee joint, and treatment must be performed first.
