Appendicitis in children is a fairly common urgent disease requiring surgical intervention.
This is known to children's surgeons, ambulance doctors and, of course, pediatricians.
Features of children's, acute appendicitis:
- structure of the form of an appendix;
- the location of the appendix( appendix);
- is an immature central nervous system;
- is a reactive feature of the child's body( the state of its immune system).
Children's appendicitis develops depending on the clinical picture of the inflammatory process.
We can distinguish such clinical forms of appendicitis:
- perforated( complicated);
- gangrenous;
- phlegmonous;
- simple.
Symptoms of appendicitis in children
The first symptom of children's appendicitis is acute pain in the navel or in the epigastric region( epigastric).
Then, the pain gradually concentrates around the right iliac appendix.
Sometimes, atypical location of the appendix can be given painful sensations in the hepatic region or retroperitoneal space.
The older age group of children is forced to take an appendicitis( aching pain), taking the position of the body( lying on the right side or on the back).
When the body is lying "on the left side," the pain is usually worse.
Unlike the younger age group, older children easily, without any problems, indicate the place of localization and the presence of pain.
Usually, these children are predisposed to other symptoms:
- refusal to eat;
- restless sleep;
- crying;
- capriciousness;
- worry.
Another characteristic symptom of appendicitis is vomiting.
Older children - this is a one-time vomiting, not bringing relief.
Vomiting of babies is often repeated.
Body temperature in older children rarely rises to 38 degrees.
The body temperature of small children often reaches higher values.
"Scissors" is another symptom of appendicitis in children.
Its characteristic manifestation is the discrepancy between pulse and temperature.
The symptom of "scissors" is most often manifested in children of the older age group.
Lamination of the tongue with white coating also manifests itself in different ways with different kinds of appendicitis:
- simple or catarrhal appendicitis is characterized by a moist tongue, coated with a white coating at its root;
- phlegmatic appendicitis is characterized by a moist tongue, coated with a white coating on its entire surface;
- gangrenous form of appendicitis is characterized by a dry tongue with a full coating of white coating;
- peritonitis is characterized by more massive white deposits on the tongue.
Among all the above-mentioned symptoms of appendicitis, older children have more frequent or delayed stools, whereas in children appendicitis can be accompanied by more frequent and liquid contents( diarrhea appendicitis).
In some cases( pelvic location of the appendix), it is marked by frequent urination( pollakuria).
After analyzing all of the above, it can be said that in older children, the main symptom of the disease is pain, and in children the nonspecific symptomatology prevails:
- sleep disturbances;
- loss of appetite;
- anxiety and some other symptoms.
