Antibiotic Sumamed is azolid in the macrolide group. This drug is a fundamentally new mechanism of action, possessing not only bacteriostatic, but also with accumulation of bactericidal action.

In addition, Sumamed slowly decomposes and is eliminated from the body, which allows you to create the necessary concentration of the drug in the right place for the next three days.

And by the end of the fourth hour after administration, the concentration of the drug in the cells of the tissues is 10 times higher than the amount of sumamed in the blood, and at the site of infection it is 30% more than in unaffected tissues.

Form and composition of the preparation

The owner of the official patent The Croatian company "PLVA HRVATSKA d.o.o." secured the right to manufacture and release the drug on the basis of the active substance "azithromycin", the pharmacological name of which is "Sumamed".The patent was received back in 1980.In Russia, Sumamed officially registered in 1988.

The drug is available in pharmacological forms such as:

1. Sumamed 125 tablets. These are round, biconvex pills of a gently blue color. On one side the stamp "PLIVA" is stamped out, and on the other side the dosage of the active substance, sumamed 125 mg is indicated.
2. Sumamed tablets 500. They have an oblong shape, and so are the manufacturer's designation and dosage on each pill. The auxiliary components include:
   • calcium phosphate;
   • hypromellose;
   • cornstarch;
   • indigotine Е132;
   • polysorbate 80;
   • titanium dioxide;
   • talcum powder.
3. Sumamed capsules 250mg. These are gelatinous, solid containers containing a white crystalline powder. Each capsule contains 250 mg of active azithromycin dihydrate. Excipients are: microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate.
4. Sumamed powder. This form is produced for the preparation of a suspension. One bottle contains a powder of dark white color, and has the smell of strawberry.5 ml of the finished suspension contains 100 mg of active azithromycin. A kit for the preparation of this dosage form is provided with a measuring spoon and a dosage syringe. Such a set is necessary, since it is intended for the use of sumamed for children. The auxiliary components consist of:
   • sucrose;
   • natural flavor;
   • sodium benzonate;
   • tragacanth;
   • silicon dioxide.
5. Sumamed lyophilizant. From this dosage form solutions for injections are prepared. One bottle of lyophilizant contains 500 mg of active substance, and in each package there are 5 such vials.

Contraindications on use for children and adults, side effects

Like any antibiotic, despite all its superiority and positive qualities, uncontrolled reception of sumamed can cause a number of negative side effects. Since azithromycin is metabolized on the liver, the disturbances primarily affect its function and gastrointestinal tract. These are such manifestations as:

• loss of appetite;
• nausea before vomiting;
• diarrhea or constipation;
• increased multiplication of candida, fungi, which are normally present in a small amount, and with rapid growth cause candidiasis.

The nervous system may suffer, this will be reflected by such consequences as:

They are only copies or generic of the original means. The lower prices of these drugs are due to the fact that they have not been clinically tested and require lower costs. The fact is that a firm that has the rights to release a medicine does not hide its composition and the names of auxiliary products, but never disclose the technology and rules of preparation.

In addition to the fact that it is impossible to assume the effectiveness of a generic drug, there is a high risk of increasing the possible negative consequences from its administration. The interaction of sumamed with other drugs can be divided into groups such as:

• Antacids. These are preparations containing magnesium, ethanol, aluminum, substances that significantly reduce the suction capacity of sumamed. The same applies to food products. Therefore, it is recommended to make hour-long breaks between taking sumamed and antacids.
• Enzymes of the cytochrome complex. With such drugs as terfenadine, carbamazepine, digoxin, sumamed can be taken without adhering to any limitations.
• Anticoagulants. Such drugs as methylprednisolone, felodipine, cyclosporine, phenytoin, slow the withdrawal of sumamed from the body. This means that the risk of excessive accumulation and development of side effects increases.
• Absolute incompatibility of sumamed is found in heparin. If the doctor considers it necessary to perform the treatment with sumamed, then a few days before the start it is necessary to stop taking heparin, and continue it only 7 days after the end of the course.
