Hypoplasia of the uterus: degree, treatment - can I get pregnant?

click fraud protection

The uterus is the organ of the reproductive system of a woman intended for bearing a child. Therefore, its size should be such that the muscles that form the basis of this body, could sufficiently stretch and accommodate the full-term fetus during pregnancy.

In the part of the fair sex, the parameters of the uterus are determined below the norm values. In this case, a diagnosis is made of "hypoplasia," in which a full-fledged bearing of the child before the due date becomes problematic.

Hypoplasia of the uterus - what is it?

Hypoplasia of the uterus is a pathology of development of the most important organ of the female reproductive system, consisting in the fact that the length, width and volume of the uterus is much less than the permissible values. The causes of this disease are different:

  • Intrauterine underdevelopment of the uterus - occurs in the prenatal period, when the formation of the child's organs entirely depends on the mother and the environmental situation that surrounds it.
  • Pituitary and hypothalamic lesions - these two parts of the central nervous system play a huge role in the sexual maturation of the girl. If one of them functions incorrectly, then there is a risk of developing acquired hypoplasia of reproductive organs.
  • Diseases of the endocrine system - hormonal failures that occur due to dysfunction of the ovaries or the adrenal cortex, can affect the maturation of the uterus in adolescence and significantly slow its development.
  • Deficiency of body weight in adolescence - causes hypoplasia due to the fact that the lack of sufficient nutrients depresses the function of the central nervous system, responsible for the normal development of the organs of the reproductive system.

Gynecologists note that the vast majority of cases of uterine underdevelopment are not due to birth defects, but because of the pathological conditions of the body that took place in the childhood or adolescence of a woman.

Degrees of Hypoplasia of the Uterus

Hypoplasia of the uterus in degrees

Uterine underdevelopment is divided into several degrees - than the is less than the degree, the more serious is the pathology.

1 degree of hypoplasia - the size of the uterus does not reach three centimeters. Usually it is formed in the girl during intrauterine development and has the name "embryonic uterus".The body of the organ is almost undeveloped, but the cervical canal can be larger.

Many women are interested in the question: can I get pregnant with hypoplasia of the uterus of 1 degree? Doctors give an unambiguous answer: it is possible, but pregnancy will be difficult and it is necessary to be adjusted in advance to the fact that most of the time will have to be spent in a hospital in a hospital.

2 degree of hypoplasia - the size of the uterus is more than 3 cm, but less than 5, 5 cm. This womb is called "nursery".She responds much better to treatment, therefore, on the whole, doctors give a favorable prognosis for bearing a child. Hypoplasia of the uterus of the 2nd degree means that the growth of the organ stopped in childhood.

3 degree of hypoplasia - the uterus is only slightly less than the norm( from 6 to 7 centimeters). This degree suggests that organ development stopped during adolescence. In some cases, the gynecologist does not prescribe the treatment at all, making sure by the results of the examination that the uterus has only minimal deviations from the norm.

Hypoplasia of the uterus - can I get pregnant?

Hypoplasia of the uterus and pregnancy

Theoretically, pregnancy is possible at any stage of hypoplasia, provided that the woman normally develops other organs of the reproductive system: ovaries and fallopian tubes.

The problem is that the smaller the body of the uterus, the less the woman has the opportunity to deliver the baby to the end of the term.

If severe hypoplasia is detected, then first you need to undergo a course of treatment, the purpose of which is to stimulate the growth of the uterus. When the therapy is positive, you can start planning for pregnancy.

However, hypoplasia of 1 degree can be combined with underdevelopment of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. As a result, during treatment and attempts at conception, there will be two difficulties: the ovaries will not be able to produce enough female sex hormones, or the egg will not be able to enter the uterine tube if this body also has underdevelopment.

Treatment of uterine hypoplasia, drugs

The basis for the correction of uterine hypoplasia is hormone therapy. The body of each woman is individual, so someone will have a positive effect right after the first course of treatment, and someone even the most intensive therapy will not bring the desired result.

  • Hormonal drugs are usually oral contraceptives( usually Diane-35), which the doctor prescribes to drink from several months to several years - it all depends on how he will respond to the treatment of the uterus.
  • Physiotherapy - such types as magnetotherapy, diathermy, UHF therapy can be used. The goal is to make the ovaries work and normalize the circulation in the pelvic cavity.
  • Massage - with underdevelopment of the uterus, a woman can be assigned several courses of gynecological massage, which will pursue the same goals as physiotherapy - stimulating the ovaries and increasing blood flow to the organs of the reproductive system.

If you know in advance that the size of the uterus is much lower than normal, then you should not plan a pregnancy before the treatment for hypoplasia. The acceleration of events can lead to the fact that the baby will die because of a lack of space for further development in the body cavity of the uterus.

But how do you know about hypoplasia before pregnancy?

Symptoms of uterine hypoplasia

Even if the size of the uterus does not meet the standards, then without an ultrasound and an examination of the gynecologist it is impossible to determine that there is something wrong with this organ. The woman does not feel pain, discomfort, and therefore for a long time will not see a good reason for visiting a doctor. However, there are a number of indirect symptoms that should be alerted:

  1. Irregular menstruation.
  2. Late onset of menstruation in adolescence.
  3. Infertility.
  4. Painful menstruation.
  5. Undivided pubic hair.
  6. Miscarriages in the beginning and middle of the second trimester of pregnancy.

An accurate diagnosis can be made only by a doctor on ultrasound or at a reception in a women's consultation, focusing on the following symptoms:

  • When palpating the doctor determines the abnormally small size of the uterus.
  • ultrasound determines the following parameters of the uterine body: length - less than 4.4 cm, width - less than 4.3 cm, thickness - less than 3.2 cm( if there were no pregnancies yet).
  • ultrasound determines a violation of the ratio of the body of the uterus and cervix.
  • Sometimes during ultrasound, it turns out that the fallopian tubes and the female ovaries also have anomalously small dimensions.

An accurate diagnosis is made only after ultrasound, and in addition the doctor takes into account also indirect signs of uterine hypoplasia, which he told the patient.
