- Video about the drug Veroshpiron
Veroshpiron is a drug, which is widely used in medical practice. Tablets are prescribed for the treatment of disorders caused by insufficient production of potassium. Each disease has its own characteristics of intake and dosage.
Release form
The medicine is produced in Hungary in the form of oral tablets. The tablets are white, round and flat. There is a special marking on one side. The capsules are packed in blisters and packaged in cardboard containers.
Chemical composition
The main active ingredient is spironolactone.
Additional composition:
- magnesium stearic acid salt;
- milk sugar;
- colloidal silicon dioxide;
- corn starch.
Auxiliary components enhance the effect of the main substance and complement each other.
Pharmacological properties
The drug belongs to the group of potassium-sparing diuretics. When using it, there is a retention of water and sodium aldosterone in the body. Interacting with aldosterone receptors, the agent promotes the elimination of sodium, chlorine, water and urine ions from the body. In this case, there is a decrease in the excretion of potassium and urea ions, which, in turn, leads to a decrease in the acidity of urine.
The medicine leads to a decrease in pressure, which is due to its diuretic effect.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
The active substance is rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It interacts with proteins (about 90%). The component lends itself to metabolic transformation in the liver and breaks down into several active metabolites. The half-life of the ingredients is 1.3 to 11.2 hours.
Most metabolites leave the body through the renal system. A small part is excreted through the intestines. The main component can pass into breast milk and through the placenta. The half-life of metabolites is significantly higher than that of the main substance.
The functional ability of the kidneys after taking a single dosage is restored after 7 hours and lasts for 1 day.
Indications for use
Veroshpiron tablets (the dosage of the drug may vary significantly depending on the form of the disorder) should be taken strictly in accordance with the instructions of the doctor.
The drug has a wide range of recommendations for admission:

- heart failure (congestive form of the disease) - in the absence of the effectiveness of previous therapy or in combination with other diuretic drugs;
- cirrhosis of the liver (in the presence of concomitant symptoms - edema, nephrotic syndrome);
- deficiency of potassium in the body (in the absence of the possibility of other treatment);
- Connes syndrome (when diagnosed or as the main treatment);
- insufficient production of potassium (as a prophylaxis in patients who take cardiac glycosides or in the absence of the possibility of other therapy).
The medication is prescribed only with an established diagnosis.

Instructions for use, dosage
Verospiron in tablets (the dosage is selected in each case separately) is intended for oral use.
With edema
With the development of edema, 25-200 mg of the drug is prescribed per day. In this case, the dosage can be divided into 2 equal doses. With a low level of potassium and sodium ions in the urine, the dosage can be from 0.2 to 0.4 g per day. The duration of therapy is according to the testimony of a specialist.
At high pressure
With increased pressure, the initial dosage is 25 mg per day. In the absence of a pronounced effect within a month, the dose can be increased to 50 mg per day. The duration of the course is individual, not less than 3 months.
With a hangover
With a hangover syndrome, take 0.1-0.4 g once or after dividing the dose into several equal doses.
For acne
For acne, it is recommended to take the medicine at the rate of 1-3 μg / kg of body weight. The resulting dosage should be divided into several identical doses (no more than 4 times).
The duration of therapy depends on the severity of the pathology and is set individually.

Among laboratory parameters, there is an increase in the concentration of uric acid, hemoglobin and creatinine. In the event of the development of these symptoms or other signs, it is recommended to cancel the drug and consult a specialist.
Overdose
In case of exceeding single and daily dosages, Veroshpiron can lead to the development of undesirable symptoms, so the tablets must be taken strictly according to the instructions.
Overdose:
- nausea and vomiting;
- episodes of dizziness;
- increased sleepiness;
- confusion of consciousness;
- diarrhea;

If necessary, therapy is carried out aimed at normalizing the water-electrolyte balance. In this case, potassium-sparing diuretics are used and injections of a dextrose solution with insulin are injected.
In more difficult situations, extrahepatic blood cleansing is performed.
special instructions
With extreme caution, a medication is prescribed to patients with diseases that can lead to the development of acidosis or an increase in potassium.
In patients with diabetic nephropathy, the risks of an abnormal increase in potassium in the blood are significantly higher.
The drug can provoke an increase in AMK, especially in patients with functional renal disorders or pathologically elevated levels of potassium in the blood. In this connection, in this category of patients it is required to periodically conduct studies of the functions of the blood, kidneys and liver.
A critical increase in potassium in the blood can be fatal, therefore, in patients with heart failure, this indicator should be regularly monitored.
At values of 3.5 mmol and above, the drug should be discarded.
The control of potassium in the blood must be carried out according to the following schedule:
- 1st study - 7 days after the start of therapy.
- 2nd stage - every month for the first 3 months.
- 3rd stage - every 3 months throughout the year
- Follow-up control - every six months.
It should be borne in mind that taking pills in patients with porphyria may exacerbate this disease.
During therapy, it is necessary to refuse to take alcoholic beverages.
At the initial stages of therapy, you should stop driving. Time limits are set on a case-by-case basis.
Drug interactions
Veroshpiron in tablets (the dosage of the drug can be adjusted throughout the entire course of treatment) in childhood is allowed to be preliminarily crushed to a mushy state.
