This medicine is manufactured in Hungary in the form of tablets or capsules for oral use. The active substance of the agent is spironolactone.

Additional composition:

The active ingredient has diuretic and potassium-sparing properties aimed at suppressing the production of aldosterone produced by the adrenal cortex.

Aldosterone leads to sodium and fluid retention in the body and suppresses potassium production. The active substance of the drug interferes with the action of this hormone, preventing the synthesis reactions of permeases located in the area of ​​the collecting ducts and distal tubules.

The active ingredient interacts with aldosterone receptors, which leads to the release of sodium, water and chlorine ions along with urine. The main component of the drug reduces the excretion of potassium and urea ions. At the same time, a decrease in the acidity of urine is noted.

The medicine can have a short-term diuretic effect. The diuretic properties of the tablets occur after the first 2-5 days of treatment. The capsules are highly absorbent. The level of interaction with proteins is about 98%. The maximum concentration is from 2 to 4 hours.

When ingested, the active substance is metabolized and converted into 2 constituent components - sulfur (about 80%) and canrenone (about 20%). The active substances penetrate poorly into tissues and organs. However, they are able to penetrate the placental barrier and partly into breast milk.

Decay products are excreted mainly by the renal system. About 50% of all substances leave the body in the form of metabolites. About 10% of the components are excreted through the intestines in an unchanged form. The half-life of the main component of the drug varies from 12 to 24 hours. Active metabolites leave the body after 15 hours.

The half-life of active metabolites and the main component increases if the patient has heart failure or liver cirrhosis.

Indications for use

Veroshpiron (analogues and substitutes for the drug may have additional indications for use) is prescribed only after examinations and a confirmed diagnosis.

Indications:

• hypertension (essential form);
• the development of edema formed against the background of heart failure;
• disorders accompanied by the development of secondary hyperaldosteronism, including cirrhosis of the liver, nephrotic pathologies or other diseases that occur together with the development of edema;
• lack of potassium or magnesium in the blood - as part of a complex treatment or as an auxiliary method of therapy;
• Conn's syndrome - during the rehabilitation period;
• primary hyperaldosteronism.

Contraindications

Tablets / capsules have some limitations.

Contraindications:

Instructions for use, dosage

The medication is intended for oral administration.

The dosage is calculated according to the disease:

• With the development of essential hypertension, 0.05-0.1 g is prescribed at a time. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 0.2 g per day. The recommended course of treatment is at least 14 days.
• For idiopathic hyperaldosteronism, the recommended dosage is 0.1 to 0.4 g.
• With hyperaldosteronism or potassium deficiency in the body, 0.3 g is prescribed, divided into 3-4 equal doses. With a good therapeutic effect, the dosage can be reduced to 0.025 g.
• Lack of magnesium / potassium in the body: the daily dosage varies from 0.02 to 0.1 g. The indicated dose can be divided into several equal doses.
• As short diagnostic measures, 0.4 g of the drug per day is prescribed, divided into several equal parts. The duration of use is 4 days.
• As a long-term testing, 0.4 g per day is prescribed for 21-28 days.
• In preparation for operative actions, the recommended dosage is 0.1-0.4 g each. Divided into several equal parts. Take capsules throughout the preparation period.
• With the development of edema caused by nephrotic disorders, 0.1-0.2 g per day is prescribed. The tool is used only if other methods of therapy are ineffective.
• With edema provoked by heart failure, the daily dosage is 0.1-0.2 g. The duration of therapy is 5 days.
• In the event of edema caused by cirrhosis of the liver, 0.1 g per day is prescribed. With a low level of sodium and potassium ions, the dosage can be increased to 0.2-0.4 g.

Side effects

In some cases, the drug can cause negative manifestations.

Side effects:

Overdose

The risks of an increase in the concentration of potassium in the blood may increase with the simultaneous use of capsules / tablets and the following drugs:

• diuretics;
• ACE blockers;
• cyclosporine;
• drugs that suppress the activity of angiotensin 2 receptors.

The combined use of the drug with fludrocortisone can lead to an increase in the production of potassium.
