Cytixol is a drug that belongs to the group of atypical antipsychotics. It is able to interact with serotonin, histamine and alpha2-adrenoreceptors localized in the brain.
The main active substance is quetiapine. The additional substances that make up the drug include carbohydrates and mineral components.
Produced in tablet form for 25, 100, 200 mg of active ingredient, the capsules are coated with a specific protective coating.

Pharmacological profile
When injected into the body, Quetoxol has a weak catalepsy effect, which blocks the receptors of dopamine in the brain.
The drug has a pronounced sedative and antipsychotic effect, due to inhibition of neural-reflex transmission. Quetiapine affects the production of hormones of the pituitary and hypothalamus, helps increase blood pressure and eliminates the symptoms of a mental disorder.

Indications and contraindications for use
As an antipsychotic drug, Cytixol is used for: 
- schizophrenia;
- manic-depressive syndrome;
- delusional disorder;
- bipolar mental disorders.
Positive effect occurs after a two-time intake during the day. Kvetiksol is absolutely safe to use.
The only contraindications are:
- allergic reaction to any of the components that make up the drug;
- simultaneous use of antibacterial drugs.
Treatment and dosage regimen
An adult should take a medicine 2 times a day. The regimen differs depending on the type of mental illness.
For schizophrenia, dosages are as follows:
- 1 day - 50 mg / day;
- Day 2 - 100;
- Day 3 - 200;
- Day 4 - 300.
Depending on the individual tolerability and the effectiveness of the exposure to a particular patient, the dosage can be adjusted.
In the treatment of manic-depressive syndrome and bipolar disorder:
- 1 day - 100 mg / day;
- Day 2 - 200;
- Day 3 - 300;
- Day 4 - 400.
Cytixel should be taken with caution to the elderly and those suffering from hepatic and renal insufficiency that increased risk of overdose. The initial dose should not be more than 25 mg per day, then the dose gradually rises until the maximum therapeutic effect is achieved.
To date, the mechanism of the effect of the drug on children under the age of 18 has not been studied, which is why in pediatric practice, Kvetixol is not used.
How the use of medication on the body of a pregnant woman will affect and the fetus is not fully understood. That is why in such situations the use of a medicinal substance is carried out only in extreme and neglected forms of mental disorder.
Cases of overdose and adverse reactions
Symptoms of overdose develop very rarely, and there have been no lethal cases until today.
Symptoms of overdose can be directly related to the inadequacy of the functioning of the cardiac conduction system and manifest as tachycardia, lower blood pressure and "angina pectoris".
When a dose above the norm develops a pronounced sedative effect on the central nervous system, which is characterized by drowsiness until apathy.

This medication may cause the development or progression of a malignant neuroleptic syndrome, in which case it is recommended that the antipsychotic be temporarily stopped or replaced with another drug.
The withdrawal syndrome is a pathological condition that develops against the backdrop of a sharp withdrawal of Kvetixol. It manifests itself in the form of nausea, vomiting, dizziness and sudden progression of mental disorder. To prevent the development of such a condition, the dose of the drug should be gradually reduced until it is completely eliminated.

Given the fact that quetiksol has a direct effect on the functioning of the central nervous system, caution should be taken with other drugs of a similar mechanism of action. It is necessary to combine with caution with drugs that lower blood pressure.
