The choice between Zenerite and Baziron can cause some difficulties, despite the general antibacterial direction of action for them. Both funds are for topical treatment of acne (acne) - a problem often faced by young people aged 12 to 24 years. Which one of this pair copes better with skin lesions is determined by a number of factors. The most significant of them are the compositions, features of use and the nature of the course of the disease.
The composition and principle of action of Baziron
Benzoyl peroxide based external remedy. Manufacturer: Galderma Laboratory, Switzerland. The drug is available in the form of a gel. In Russia, 2 variants of the drug are available - with 5 and 2.5% concentration of the active substance.
When applied to the skin, the gel destroys bacteria and reduces inflammation. An important point is the ability of the drug to reduce the amount of sebum, which is intensively produced by the sebaceous glands during puberty and hormonal changes.

The therapeutic efficacy of the drug is explained by the properties of its constituents, not only active, but also auxiliary:
- Benzoyl peroxide has a pronounced antimicrobial activity. The compound targets the main acne-causing bacteria: Propionibacteria acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Upon contact with the bacterial cell membrane, the substance demonstrates bactericidal properties, causing the death of the microorganism. In addition, when benzoyl peroxide decomposes, benzoic acid is formed, which exhibits a bacteriostatic effect: it inhibits the growth and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria. The structure of the compound is peroxide, therefore it has a bleaching property and destroys the structure of comedones.
- The acrylate copolymer is a tiny granule capable of absorbing liquid up to 4 times its own weight. Together with other auxiliary components, it forms a gel base that absorbs sebum. As a result, the development of seborrhea is prevented, the oily sheen of the skin is reduced.
- Glycerin is responsible for softening and moisturizing the skin. Its action reduces the irritating effect of benzoyl peroxide.
When used externally, the drug has no systemic effect. Benzoic acid is not absorbed into the systemic circulation, does not accumulate in tissues. It is excreted unchanged by the kidneys.
Composition and action of Zinerite
Combined preparation based on erythromycin and zinc from the pharmaceutical company "Astellas Pharma Europe", Holland. Comes on sale in the form of a set consisting of 2 bottles and an applicator. The 1st bottle contains a medicinal powder for solution preparation; in the second - the solvent. The applicator is designed to apply the ready-made solution to the skin.
The drug combines the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects inherent in the active ingredients. Its comedolytic effect is noted: the composition helps to dissolve the fatty "filling" of blackheads - comedones.

Characteristics of active ingredients:
- The antibiotic erythromycin acts as a bacteriostatic, suppressing the vital activity of pathogenic microorganisms. As in the case of Baziron AC, its destructive action is directed against the bacteria that are responsible for the development of acne: all the same propionbacterium acne and epidermal streptococcus. Erythromycin inhibits protein synthesis in the microbial cell - its main building material.
- Zinc inhibits the activity of the sebaceous glands, has an astringent and antiseptic effect. In the preparation, it is in a micronized form, which improves the penetration of the drug into the depths of the epidermis.
- Diisopropylsebacate provides skin hydration; in combination with ethanol it is used as a solvent.
Zinc does not enter the systemic circulation, while a small amount of erythromycin is found in the blood.
Comparison of Baziron and Zenerite against acne
Zenerit or Baziron (which is better suited for acne, depends to a large extent on the specific case) are prescribed by dermatologists. Features of the body, the nature of the rash, ease of use - all these factors affect the choice of the drug.
Contraindications
The use of both drugs is provided in pediatrics, but only from the age of 12. It is from this age that the first manifestations of acne appear in adolescents.
Both products cannot be used in case of hypersensitivity to ingredients.
With regard to conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, there are no restrictions for Zinerit. The use of Baziron AC in these cases is also possible, but taking into account the opinion of the attending physician regarding the possible risk to the fetus and the benefit to the mother.
What rashes help drugs
Acne is accompanied by two types of inflammatory eruptions: papules and pustules. Papules look like inflamed bumps (nodules) protruding above the skin, but there are no purulent contents in them. The classic pus-filled pimples are pustules. Rashes can be either single, consisting of one or more elements, or multiple, affecting large areas of the skin.
The papulopustular form of acne is preceded by the formation of comedones, that is, sebaceous plugs in the hair follicles. Comedones appear as white or black spots in the enlarged pores of the skin. The appearance of comedones in adolescents is facilitated by the increased production of androgens, which marks the beginning of puberty.
According to the severity of painful manifestations on the skin, acne is divided into several degrees of severity:

Zenerit or Baziron can be used in the treatment of both single and multiple rashes of an inflammatory nature. It must be borne in mind that the antibiotic in the composition of Zinerite copes better with purulent papules than benzoyl peroxide.
At the same time, external drugs as monotherapy are used only for forms of mild to moderate acne (including grade III). With a developed inflammatory process, systemic antibiotic therapy is necessary, that is, taking antibiotics by mouth.
The manufacturer Baziron AC took into account that acne can be affected by different types of skin. For sensitive and prone to irritation skin, a gel with a lower concentration (2.5%) is used. For oily and normal skin, a preparation with a 5% concentration of the active substance is intended.
Zenerit is preferable to use for oily skin, since the composition contains a large amount of alcohol.
The use of both drugs is recommended when papulopustular rash predominates. Although Zinerite and Baziron have comedolytic effects, they are not as strong. Therefore, if the patient's skin lesion is predominantly expressed by comedones, topical (local) retinoids are used.
How fast they act
Immediate results should not be expected from both drugs. The condition for the onset of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect is the accumulation of active substances in the sebaceous hair follicles. The first positive results begin to appear only after their regular use for several weeks.
So, Baziron AC gel reduces the number and severity of inflammatory elements after a month of treatment. In order to obtain a lasting improvement in the condition of the skin, a 3-month course is required.
The action of Zinerit appears after 2 weeks of using the solution. It is assumed that after 8 weeks of therapy, the severity of acne should be reduced by 2 times.
Schemes and duration of use
Zenerit or Baziron (which better contributes to the success of anti-acne therapy, depends, among other things, on its duration) cannot be used if there are contraindications. Both products are recommended for use twice a day: in the morning, before applying makeup, and after washing your face before bed.
Gel Baziron AC is applied in a thin layer, evenly spreading over the affected surface. The manufacturer warns that it is better to start treatment with a drug with a lower concentration of the active substance (2.5%). If the effectiveness is insufficient, you should switch to Baziron 5%.
The bottle with the prepared Zinerite solution is tilted down and pressed with the applicator on the skin. The preparation is convenient for spot application on acne elements.
For Zinerit, a 12-week duration of the therapeutic course has been established. The absence of antibiotics in Baziron's composition allows the drug to be used for a long time, up to 4-6 months.
Advantages and disadvantages
The undoubted advantage of benzoyl peroxide gel is the absence of the risk of developing drug resistance in bacterial strains related to acne. In this respect, Zenerit loses to Baziron: cases of resistance of Propionibacterium acnes to erythromycin are not so rare. The lack of effect after 2 weeks of treatment with Zenerit is a possible indication of the resistance of bacteria to the antibiotic.
Baziron AC has a beneficial cosmetic effect: it discolors hyperpigmented scars and spots left after inflammatory rashes.
In addition, the variability of the concentration of the active substance in Baziron allows you to choose a drug for any type of skin.
The advantages of Zinerit include its compatibility with the use of decorative cosmetics: after application to the skin, the solution dries up and becomes invisible. The tool copes better with purulent elements of rashes, and the applicator makes it convenient to apply to individual elements. This avoids trapping healthy surfaces.
It should be noted the short shelf life of the ready-made Zinerit solution - only 5 weeks.
Side effects
The drugs have a favorable safety profile: they do not have a systemic effect on the body and rarely cause any undesirable effects. In some cases, local reactions from the skin are observed: dryness, irritation and a slight burning sensation after applying the product.
Zenerit or Baziron (which is better tolerated by patients, is determined by a dermatologist based on the test results) are selected taking into account that erythromycin in Zinerit can cause the development of cross-resistance to antibiotics from the macrolide group, as well as to lincomycin and clindamycin. In the future, if the need arises, this can make it difficult to find an alternative remedy for acne.
Reviews of cosmetologists and dermatologists
Many dermatologists consider Zenerit as the first choice for treating new-onset acne in adolescents. At the same time, it is noted that treatment can have a positive effect only with mild acne. Some people avoid prescribing this drug because of the high risk of developing antibiotic resistance. Cosmetologists mention the need for additional moisturizing of the skin with creams and emulsions, since the drug greatly dries the skin.
Baziron is recommended as an SOS remedy for juvenile acne and premenstrual acne.
Experts note with regret that many adolescents do not always complete the course of treatment, which leads to a relapse of the disease. For this reason, the need for long-term use of drugs until a stable positive result is achieved, they refer to the disadvantages.
Consumer opinion on drugs
Sharing their experience of using Baziron, many consumers note the reliability of the result after completing the full course of treatment. Some people experience increased dryness and irritation of the skin, many are unhappy with the high price of the drug.
With regard to Zinerit, the reviews are not so favorable. Many are dissatisfied with the need to prepare the solution on their own, which makes the use of the drug not very convenient and reduces patient compliance (adherence to treatment).
Some people advise using a cotton swab for spot application because the tip of the applicator is too wide. But the decisive negative point remains the frequent cases of drug ineffectiveness with repeated or prolonged use. Those consumers who did not develop antibiotic resistance reported good results.
For acne treatment, Zenerit or Baziron AC can be prescribed. In general, both drugs cope with mild to moderate disease. To understand what is best for a particular patient, one should take into account the nature of the rash, the type of his skin and the presence-absence of bacteria resistance to erythromycin.
