Vimovo is available in the form of tablets. Each tablet has an enteric coating. The capsules contain two main components - naproxen( 500 mg) and esomeprazole( 20 mg).

Pharmaceuticals The active ingredient of the drug, naproxen, has analgesic and antipyretic properties. The mechanism of action of this component is directly associated with the suppression of prostaglandin synthetase.
The second active substance is esomeprazole. This component is a proton-type pump inhibitor. It has a depressant effect on the state of gastric acid secretion in the stomach due to the suppression of the proton pump in the parietal cells of the stomach.
This results in the conversion of esomeprazole to an active state, while it is present in the oxidized environment of the secretory tubules of parietal cells of the mucosa of the gastric walls. During this, suppression of basal and stimulated secretion of hydrochloric acid is observed.
After twice taking the drug, its maximum level of plasma-type concentration is achieved in about three hours.
At the same time, eating does not affect the level of absorption of naproxen, but it slows down this process by 8 hours, plus the level of plasma concentration of the main component decreases by 12%.
After a two-time administration, esomeprazole is rapidly absorbed. The period of maximum plasma concentration of this component occurs in 30-45 minutes. At the same time, eating does not reduce the time of absorption of esomeprazole, but, however, lowers its degree, as a result, the level of plasma concentration decreases to 75%.
The active substance naproxen is almost 99% bound by albumin, which is part of the blood plasma.
After the drug is taken twice, the half-life of naproxen will be between 9 and 15 hours. Approximately 95% of the drug is excreted along with the urine in an unchanged state. About 3% or less can go along with feces.
The half-life of the second major component of esomeprazole is 60 minutes. Approximately 80% of the component is excreted by the kidneys together with the urine. The rest can go with faeces.
