Razagilin is an inhibitor that regulates the activity of group B monoamine oxidase and metabolic processes in the brain. Due to the action of this substance, the formation of toxic radicals slows down, the increased content of which causes the development of Parkinson's disease.

The components of the medicine are metabolized by the liver by almost 100%.The excretion of the substance is carried out by 60% by the kidneys, by 20-25% by the intestine, and less than 1% leaves the body in an unchanged state.
Studies on the efficacy and safety of
In recent years, a number of studies have been carried out on the mechanism of development of disorders in Parkinson's disease, and means for controlling the disease have been developed.
Study of the effects of rasagiline on the human body made it possible to draw the following conclusions:
- substance has the ability to reduce the severity of the symptoms of the disease;
- has neuroprotective abilities, which allows to restrain pathological processes;
- , in contrast to its predecessor, selegiline, has a more marked positive effect.
Within the framework of the experiment, which was called the "Delayed Start", the patients were divided into 2 groups. In the first phase of the experiment for 6 months, one part of the patients took rasagiline in the recommended doses, and the second - a placebo.
Initially, the manifestations of the disease in people who were in both groups were approximately the same, and there were no significant differences between the patients' condition.
In the first phase of the experiment, when only half of the patients took rasagiline, the situation changed: those who did not take the drug continued to deteriorate, while the other group of symptoms indicating progression of the disease was not revealed.
In the second phase of the study, lasting 6 months, the drug was taken by all patients, including those to whom he had not previously been appointed. As a result, at the end of taking the drug, the indices in the patients from both groups were approximately the same.
As for the dosage of the drug, in patients who took 1 mg of the substance, the Parkinson's status scores were slightly lower than those who were prescribed 2 mg. In other words, the external, somatic manifestations of the disease in the first group of patients were slightly stronger than in the second.
However, after 6 months, it was found that improvements in patients receiving a lower dose were more persistent than in the second group.
Indicators of growth in the assessment in the first case were higher. This suggests that an increased dose of the drug allows you to "disguise" the symptoms, but the neuroprotective effect is not so strong. In other words, persistent improvement in the state of the nervous system is not observed.
The probable cause is that a dose of 2 mg can increase the symptomatic effect for a while, but not achieve a permanent and lasting improvement in the general condition of the patient.
What effect does rasagiline have on the body? First of all, the substance helps to prevent the death of neurons or significantly slows down this process. As a result of the use of medicines, the symptomatology is growing much more slowly, and the destructive processes are not so intense.
Of course, there is no need to talk about the patient's recovery in this condition, but the ability to contain the disease and strengthen the resistance of the organism is also of no small importance.
During the research, possible side effects resulting from the use of drugs with rasagiline were identified. 
Negative changes can affect various organs and systems, causing patients to feel discomfort of varying severity.
Some of the negative signs are found quite often, some manifestations constitute a small percentage of the total number of side effects.
The study did not investigate the effect of Azilect on the woman's body during pregnancy, and there is also no evidence of whether rasagiline is excreted in breast milk. The effect of the substance on the children's organism was also not investigated.

Medication is used to treat Parkinson's disease as a means for monotherapy, and in combination with 
preparations of levodopa. Also, the drug is effective in the treatment of Parkinson's syndrome.
There are a number of cases when this medication is contraindicated. These include:
- age to 18 years;
- period of pregnancy and lactation;
- mean and severe stage of hepatic insufficiency, belonging to classes B and C in accordance with the Child-Pugh scale;
- combined use with other inhibitors, including plant-based preparations containing St. John's wort( the interval between taking these drugs should be at least 2 weeks);
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
