Fosavans is a combined preparation consisting of alendronic acid and colcalciferol. Acid takes part in the construction of new bone tissue, pouring into its matrix.
Kolekaltsiferol stimulates the absorption of calcium and phosphate by the intestine, and controls their excretion by the kidneys. It participates in the formation of bones and improves its resorption.
Fosavans is available in the form of capsules having a white color. In one tablet: alendronate sodium - 91.37 mg;colcalciferol - 26.67 mg. In addition to these, tablets contain auxiliary additives.
Absorption of the drug occurs most favorably, if it is taken half an hour before breakfast. It is not recommended to drink coffee and orange juice. Removal of elements of the drug occurs in 1-3 days with urine.
Mechanism of action
Alendronate sodium is involved in the prevention of natural destruction and in the formation of bone tissue. This component slows the resorption( destruction) of tissue under natural conditions and in pathological changes, during which the formation of bone also slows down.
