Glaucoma - an eye disorder characterized by increased intraocular pressure as a result of violations of the outflow of aqueous humor. Is open-and-closure (anatomical concepts).
Angle-closure glaucoma is an acute, subacute and chronic. An acute attack of glaucoma - a medical emergency, often leading to loss of vision.
Symptoms of glaucoma
The acute form of angle-closure glaucoma:
- periodic worsening of visual acuity,
- iridescent circles when looking at the light,
- dull pain in the eyeball,
- headache.
Manifestations occur at long visual load (reading, watching TV), and disappear after sleep or rest.
A typical attack of acute glaucoma - a sudden throbbing pain in the eyeball with a rapid deterioration of vision. Often the attack is accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
The chronic form of angle-closure glaucoma:
- pain in the eyeball,
- the gradual loss of vision.
Open-angle glaucoma:
- any manifestations are often absent until the development of irreversible changes
- progressive deterioration of visual acuity,
- mild headaches,
- the appearance of the rainbow rings when looking at the light.
Treatment
In acute glaucoma:
- glycerol 2.1 g / kg body weight, in admixture with an equal volume of water (chilled and preferably with lemon juice)
- or acetazolamide 500 mg po
- instillation in the eye and 1% solution of brinzolamide and timolol 0.25% solution of 2 p. / day., 1-4% pilocarpine solution every 15 minutes. for 1-2 hours.
After normalization intraocular pressure acetazolamide administered 250 mg every 6-12 hours and instillation into the eye, for example,
- 1-2% pilocarpine solution 3-6 p. / day.,
- every 12 watches - timolol 0.5% or betaxolol solution 0.5% solution
- clonidine 0.125-0.25% solution every 8 hours.
In subacute and chronic forms of glaucoma:
- 1-2% pilocarpine solution 3-6 p. / d., sometimes in combination with timolol 0.5% solution 0.25 02.01 p. / day.
Surgery:
- Laser peripheral iridotomy.
In order to prevent the operation performed on the second eye.
